Staff from the archives were busy last week with the Michigan Archival Association (MAA) annual meeting. Held in Marshall, Michigan, the archivists enjoyed a few days away from work, but managed to stay busy promoting the MSU Archives and several upcoming projects. Records Archivist Whitney Miller is acting MAA president and led the group through the business meeting and is overseeing a reassessment of the MAA constitution. Assistant Archivist Sarah Roberts was elected to the MAA Board during the meeting. Congratulations, Sarah!
Several staff from MSU also gave presentations during the conference. Whitney spoke about using local history collections. Sarah spoke about documenting student groups and the grant, Documenting Diversity @ MSU, she was awarded to work on that project. Public Services Archivist Portia Vescio spoke about her experiences with tenure in the archives. Finally, Director Cynthia Ghering spoke about an upcoming digital project for the MSU Archives that should be ready to launch in September. This project would provide one place for the Archives, Special Collections, the MSU Museum and other departments around campus to put their materials related to MSU, so researchers would be able to search all materials at once.
